Grandpa Baboo's Neighborhood
Events in the Life of Grandpa Baboo
On this page I have recorded events in which I was involved this past week, as well as thoughts and opinions about these events. It is not a blog since I have not included a method for you to respond and add your opinions/feelings. I guess it would more appropriately be called an daily online diary which is then published each week. You may comment in the guestbook. However, since I fund the website, I reserve the right to delete offensive comments.

Saturday morning about 2 am. my cell phone rang. Needless to say, when your phone rings at 2 am. you are ready to leap out of your skin. A check of the caller ID screen showed an unknown caller from the 708 area code. Possibly a drunk calling for a ride or a husband making an excuse. Anyway I decided that the smart course was to return to bed and not return the call which was my first thought.. This evening we returned to the Eskews' so they could go out and help a friend celebrate a birthday while we watched over Dirk. When they arrived back at 12:30 am two weary grandparents moseyed on home.
Sunday started out much like last Sunday, gray and cloudy. At one point it began to rain and we hoped that we would not have a repeat of last Sunday's monsoon. We were watching the Masters from Augusta and after one end of the same front which was descending on us went through the weather turned from gray to sunny. Very shortly, the same happened here and it is now sunny and nice. I went over to Office Depot and picked up some cleaning supplies to clean up this laptop. While out I filled up the tank and replenished the supply of Advil and Aleve. A real exciting trip for a lazy Sunday afternoon. I finished the afternoon watching Tiger come up short in the Masters, finishing in second place. Monday I went to the fitness center and had them attempt to "fix" my electronic magic wand that unlocks the door. Failing that, the owner gave me one he had on hand that worked. Having finished at the center I went off to Lowes for some hardware we needed and to Publix for some sub sandwiches for a simple dinner. I had plenty of time since Dirk was a bit under the weather and would not be playing baseball.
Tuesday the cool front had come through and I am not sure we hit 70. The locals are running around with sweatshirts and chattering teeth. I guess everything is relative. Wednesday, the call is for 70 which is about what the temperature will be in Chicago. The only thing is that by local standards it will be cool while Chicago will be basking in the first 70 plus weather since last October. Hard to believe both are in the same country. Well, tomorrow we go to two weeks and counting and we both are looking forward to being home. Wednesday morning I did my weekly update of the St Terrence website. Of course the Wednesday highlight is our weekly tip to the Golf Club for prime rib. This has been fun, but next week unfortunately is our last shot for a while. The following Wednesday will will be flying home leaving from Tampa at 3;00pm. With any luck I'll make the first Post meeting since the December Christmas Party. When I arrived home I found an email from the Will County Train Club about their acquisition of their domain. I had asked them to assume responsibility for their domain and hosting plan and now I could take care of arrangements to get it accomplished.
Thursday when Mary got back from Curves she packed a small picnic and headed for our favorite beach place hoping to fool the seagulls who can be quite intimidating. One day I saw a flock of gulls terrorize a little girl who had a bag of chips and Kathi has had a piece of sandwich taken right out of her hand by a diving seagull. We must have been quite a sight while trying to disguise eating our sandwiches while being watched by a pair of nearby gulls. Friday I spent some time uploading the Will County Model Railroad Association files to the new site. It was easy because I just uploaded the files from my computer to the site. There was no need to transfer from one server to another. Our missed mail arrived this afternoon. Actually it was two weeks as they forgot to send it last week. In the shipment was Mary's long awaited PIN number for her new ATM card. The bank had independently issued a new card based on the fact that her number was among a group of numbers compromised by a local supermarket and it's parent company. I read my friends weekly update but need to go back and read his extra added items including poetry by his relatively newly discovered father. Tomorrow, we go and watch Dirk's ballgame before going to 4PM mass. Dirk is spending the night and attending at 4pm will make Sunday morning a bit easier.
