Grandpa Baboo's Neighborhood
Events in the Life of Grandpa Baboo
On this page I have recorded events in which I was involved this past week, as well as thoughts and opinions about these events. It is not a blog since I have not included a method for you to respond and add your opinions/feelings. I guess it would more appropriately be called an daily online diary which is then published each week. You may comment in the guestbook. However, since I fund the website, I reserve the right to delete offensive comments.

This was a travel week. After
spending Saturday trying to remember if we had packed everything, we headed for
Florida Sunday morning. This time the route took us into Indiana and down
I65 to Indianapolis. Sometimes you wonder if you will ever get to
Indianapolis or better yet, get out of Indiana. We took I64 east and soon
were out of Indiana and into Kentucky where we stopped the first night at
London, Kentucky. We usually try to cover most of the ground the first two
days leaving a more comfortable trip for day three. There are some who would
wonder why we didn't pound the pavement to arrive more quickly but years of
experience have provided the wisdom not to be in a hurry and tired along the
way.
Monday, we departed London
at a reasonable hour, again with age comes wisdom, and moved on further south.
Our next objective was to get past Atlanta and we succeeded in not only doing
that but actually got as far as Warner Robins Georgia. Warner Robins is
home to Robins Air Force Base. I am unfamiliar with it's
current mission (perhaps Air Reserve) but at one time it was the largest supply
depot in the Air Force.
Again, on Tuesday we did not rush
off but got a reasonable start on the last leg of the journey. Finally,
arriving in Florida, it was a short jaunt to Kathi's arriving just after 4 on
Tuesday afternoon were we took a little rest and had some dinner before heading
for the Southern Command to unload the car. Our cable and Internet service
had been put on vacation hold. I had said I could live without my Internet
for a few weeks, using hot spots and Kathi's wireless. We also said
we could live with basic TV. I immediately fell into Internet withdrawal
(I had a bulletin to put up) I called and had the Internet and digital
cable turned on.
We spent Wednesday recovering from the travel and just like clockwork we had the typical afternoon thunderstorm. The heat and humidity build all afternoon and together with an afternoon breeze create a thunderstorm. This batch started about 4pm but we lucked out an it had lessened considerably by the time we left for the Wednesday evening Prime Rib night. In the afternoon, I took care of the St. Terrence web site, putting up the bulletin and this weeks golf information. I had received an email earlier in the week from my good friend Tom. Seems he has been reading this site and was amazed as he put it to see what I had managed to eat especially lately. I call it Prime Rib night since the golf club special is prime rib but I often have something else. This night I chose some French Onion soup and the Sand Trap salad as I could "hear" Tom's words. Sometimes, you forget the pattern of your behavior until someone points it out. That's what friends do, THANKS TOM!!. I will also tighten back up on restaurant Breakfast.
Thursday, B and Dirk
had a swimming date so we went over after lunch. Unfortunately, the
weather did not cooperate. However, they decided to try it anyway
and discovered that between last nights rain and the cloudy day today the
pool was none too warm. Between the cool water and the cloudy day they soon
abandoned the idea as thunder rumbled in the background and rain began to fall.
It had stopped by the time we left for home, stopping to forage for provisions
on the way.
Friday we hosted a small dinner party
at Southern Command Headquarters for Kathi, Dave and Dirk and Dave's dad Mike.
Dave had come to deal with some lighting changes but after a bit of the grape
had been consumed decided such work could be left for another day. All but
Dirk left happy and full of ham and Florida green beans. Dirk stayed
behind to spend the night with B and Baboo. Grandpa Baboo actually won at
SORRY, something that rarely happens.
